Meta US Election Ad Restriction 2026: What Advertisers Must Know (Oct 27 – Nov 3)

Meta has announced a restriction period for ads about social issues, elections, or politics in the United States ahead of the 2026 Midterm Elections. If you run any ads in these categories — or your ads could be classified that way — you need to prepare now, because once the window closes, your options shrink fast.

What Is Happening (and When)

From 12:01 AM PT on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 through 11:59 PM PT on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Meta will not allow any new ads about social issues, elections, or politics to run in the US.

This follows the same approach Meta used in previous US election cycles. The reasoning: in the final days before an election, there is not enough time to contest new claims made in ads.

What You Can and Cannot Do During the Restriction

Ads that delivered at least one impression before the restriction starts may keep running — but with limited editing. You can:

  • Adjust the bid amount
  • Change the budget amount
  • Change the scheduled end date
  • Pause or unpause the ad

You cannot edit creative, placement, targeting, or optimization settings. Plan your creative and audience now, because you will be locked in.

What Advertisers Should Do Right Now

1. Get your ads live and delivering before October 27

The cutoff is about impressions, not just creation. An ad created on October 26 but stuck in review with zero impressions does not qualify. Launch early enough to clear review and serve at least one impression.

2. Make sure your disclaimer is valid

Ads about social issues, elections, or politics need a proper disclaimer and authorization. If your disclaimer setup is incomplete, fix it now — not during the restriction.

3. Finalize creative and targeting in advance

Since you cannot touch creative, placement, or targeting during the restriction, treat October 26 as your hard deadline for anything structural. After that, only budgets and bids.

4. Check whether your ads fall in scope

The restriction covers ads about social issues, elections, or politics — a broader net than just candidate ads. If your messaging touches regulated topics, assume it applies and prepare accordingly.

What If You Miss the Window?

If your ad has not served an impression before 12:01 AM PT on October 27, it cannot run until the restriction lifts on November 3. There is no appeal shortcut around this — it is a platform-wide enforcement period.

Bottom Line

Meta’s election restriction periods are predictable, announced in advance, and strictly enforced. The advertisers who get hurt are the ones who try to launch at the last minute. Get your political and social-issue ads live, delivering, and properly disclaimed well before October 27 — then ride out the restriction with budgets and bids only.
