Facebook Story Scam Alert: How Spammers Get YOUR Account Disabled (2026)

⚠️ WARNING: A dangerous new scam is targeting Facebook users right now.

Spammers are abusing Facebook’s reporting system to get innocent people’s accounts disabled. Here’s how it works — and how to protect yourself.

How the Story Reply Scam Works

  1. You post a Facebook Story (any story)
  2. A stranger replies to your story with 2 text messages
  3. They immediately delete both messages — you see “This message was deleted”
  4. You report the suspicious messages (naturally!)
  5. YOUR account gets disabled — flagged for a “sexual content” violation

The spammer weaponizes Facebook’s automated moderation. When you report, the system somehow flags your account instead of theirs.

Why This Is So Dangerous

  • ❌ You did nothing wrong — but your account gets punished
  • ❌ The spammer walks away clean — their messages are deleted, no trace
  • ❌ Appeals are slow — getting your account back can take weeks
  • ❌ Business accounts at risk too — Pages, BM, ad accounts all linked

How to Protect Yourself

1. Don’t Engage With Suspicious Story Replies

If a stranger replies to your story with weird messages and deletes them — do NOT reply, do NOT click any links.

2. Block Instead of Reporting (Sometimes)

If the messages are already deleted, reporting may backfire. Block the account instead — this stops them without triggering the broken report flow.

3. Screenshot Everything FIRST

Before the messages disappear: screenshot immediately. If you need to appeal later, evidence is everything.

4. Limit Who Can Reply to Your Stories

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy → Stories
  2. Set story replies to “Friends” only (not Public)
  3. This alone blocks most scammers

5. Turn On 2FA (Always)

If your account does get flagged, 2FA makes recovery much easier. Use our free 2FA tool.

What To Do If Your Account Gets Disabled

  1. Don’t panic — this is a known exploit
  2. Go to facebook.com/hacked or submit an appeal
  3. Explain clearly: “I was targeted by a story-reply scam. I did not violate any policy.”
  4. Attach your screenshots as evidence
  5. Be patient — but follow up if no response in 7 days

Red Flags to Watch For

  • 🚩 Stranger replies to your story
  • 🚩 Messages appear then quickly show “deleted”
  • 🚩 Profile looks fake (no posts, new account, stolen photos)
  • 🚩 Messages contain links or ask you to click something
  • 🚩 They try to move the conversation to WhatsApp/Telegram

Spread the Word

This scam works because people don’t know about it. Share this post with friends and family — especially anyone who posts Stories regularly.

The more people know, the less power scammers have.

FAQ
